They don't just learn while we are training them. They watch us constantly and learn patterns. Our online training for border collies can help you to teach them good habits, not bad.
Here's some examples of the sorts of things puppies can learn when they are only 8 weeks old:
- They learn that when we call their names and they come to us, they get a lot of praise. However, they also learn that when they are playing out in the garden and we call them, it usually means that it's time to come in. So what do they do? More often than not they ignore us.
- They learn that if they whine or bark, we respond immediately and give them what they want. So what happens when they are older and we need them to settle and be quiet in another room? They become the annoying dog that won't stop barking.
- They learn that going to the toilet outside means that it's time to come in and stop the fun. So what do they do? They take forever to go to the toilet while we pace about getting cold and annoyed.
- And when we first put them on a lead, they learn very quickly that pulling on the lead gets them to where they want to go. So they keep pulling.
- They learn that when they grab your child's favourite toy, everyone runs after them squealing, which is great fun! So what do they do next time they see something belonging to your child? They grab it and run!
